Kicking the Habit
It has been three years now since I started smoking tobacco.
At first it was only a weekend thing, you know, with a drink or a cup of coffee. Now I am smoking more than a pack a day, which my doctor said is pretty bad. He told me that I either do something to stop smoking, or I was in for an early grave. My favorite brand is the Dunhill special, but I have been known to deviate from my standard cigarettes and experiment with some not so popular brands. Like the American ‘Camel Menthols’. I enjoy both menthols and regular cigarettes. I also enjoy a nice pipe job,
I think that in order for me to stop smoking tobacco, I must find myself a decent hobby. I must admit, I do have a rather interesting hobby. I am currently in the process of cultivating my own edible mushrooms! I know what you are thinking, growing mushrooms seems like it is a lot of work, but in reality it is not more complicated than, let’s say, growing tomatoes. Mushrooms cultivations can be the easiest thing in the world, but you have to know how.
First thing one needs to do is to designate a proper’growing’ area. It can be a room or a shack, but the important thing is to keep it as clean as possible!
This is very important, because it is because of this first step, people fail when they start cultivating the very first time. There is some deep definition on what is clean and what is not. Being clean, means that there are no microorganisms of any kind, either on your surface or on your skin. Either way you are doomed to fail. Use industrial strength disinfectants. Soap and bleach is a good start, but you assure your success you must use something stronger. After you have cleaned your surface, start working on you ‘glove box’. A glove box is the contraption you use in order to further assure your success. It looks something like this, and you can make it yourself. All you need is a empty plastic container and a pair of all-purpose gloves.
The Next Step is to decide what kind of mushroom do you wish to eat after you finish cultivating. I personally love the shitake and the Chinese black mushroom. They are both fine choices, but every man has his own taste. Portobello are very popular, why not start with them?
I will won’t go into any particular details as to how mushrooms are kept or cooked, but I am going to tell you how fun mushrooms cultivating can really be. Trust me, you won’t be sorry, and neither will I. I am sure I can kick my habit, if given the right initiative. Well thank you for reading, see you next week.
